WESTPORT, CT — The Westport Police Department will host a "Coffee with a Cop" community engagement event from 8 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday at Kneads Bakery Café Mill, 580 Riverside Ave., the department announced.

"When you stop in for your morning coffee, leave a little extra time to join your neighbors and police officers for coffee and conversation," officials said in a statement. "The goal is to create a space where there are no communication barriers, no speeches, no agenda, just honest conversations about issues affecting our community, a chance to ask questions and discuss local things to do and places to eat."

Since its inception in 2011, "Coffee with a Cop" events have served to build trust and help foster a sense of community, according to organizers. Law enforcement agencies large and small have embraced the events as a way to connect with their residents and get to know each other over a cup of coffee.
