Coleytown Middle School Teacher Honored By Connecticut Writing Project

WESTPORT, CT — Westport Public Schools announced that Emily Diggs, a sixth-grade language arts teacher at Coleytown Middle School, has been selected as an Honored Teacher by the Connecticut Writing Project-Storrs.
Diggs was recognized during the Connecticut Writing Project-Storrs 2026 Student Recognition Night on Thursday at the Jorgensen Center for the Performing Arts at the University of Connecticut in Storrs.
The annual event recognizes student writers and artists, along with educators who support student writing and creative development.

According to Westport Public Schools, Diggs’ selection recognizes her work with student writers at the Westport-based school, helping the young people grow in voice, confidence, and craft.
The Connecticut Writing Project’s Connecticut Student Writing Contest and Connecticut Student Writers magazine have recognized student writing and art in kindergarten through 12th grade since 1987. The program also recognizes teachers whose work supports student achievement.

This year’s event included student speakers from grades K-12 reading winning submissions. Jennifer De Leon, an associate professor of creative writing at Framingham State University and author of Borderless, Don’t Ask Me Where I’m From and White Space: Essays on Culture, Race, & Writing, delivered the keynote address.
