On Monday, August 24 St. Luke’s School in New Canaan welcomed students back to the beloved Hilltop for orientation. Throughout this week, students will have an opportunity to connect with classmates, see their teachers, practice some of the new health and safety measures, and have fun.

Reopening campus comes with some modifications to ensure everyone stays safe and healthy. Before arriving each day, students complete an online wellness check, and once on the Hilltop—adorned with properly fitting masks—they use one of the new portable hand washing stations before entering the building. Inside, desks are spaced apart, partitions separate seats at the lunch tables, and signs remind us all to stay socially distant.

10th graders at St. Luke's School participate in their first class meeting of the new year.

Despite campus looking different, it is still the same incredible St. Luke’s community. When the students arrived on campus they were greeted by friendly faces and enthusiastic waves from Head of School Mark Davis, Head of Middle School Amber Berry, Head of Upper School Liz Perry, St. Luke’s faculty and student mentors. It was evident that behind their masks, our students, parents, and faculty were full of smiles.

“It comes as no surprise to me that our students are happy to be back. They’re figuratively jumping into each other's arms,” shared Mark Davis, St. Luke’s Head of School. “This feeling of coming home surpasses anything I’ve experienced before in my 39 years as an educator.”

After this week of acclimating, students begin classes Monday, August 31. Each day, every student can choose whether to come to classes on campus or participate with classmates in real time from home.
