Connecticut Primary Election In Westport Tuesday

WESTPORT, CT — Tuesday is primary day in Connecticut, as registered Democrats and Republicans throughout the state will decide candidates for this fall's election.

Polls open and close at the usual times, 6 a.m. and 8 p.m.

Connecticut is a closed primary state, meaning only registered Republicans and Democrats can vote in their respective races.

Absentee ballots must be received by the Town Clerk's office by 8 p.m. on Tuesday. Click here for more information on absentee ballots.

On the ballot in Westport on the Democrats side are the candidates running for Secretary of State and state Treasurer.

For Secretary of State, the race is between Stephanie Thomas and Maritza Bond; for state Treasurer, the contest is between Erick Russell, Dita Bhargava and Karen DuBois-Walton.

The Democratic winner of the Secretary of State race will face the winner of the Republican race between Dominic Rapini, Brock Weber and Terrie E. Wood.

In the general election for Treasurer, the Democratic winner will face Republican Harry Arora.

Westport Republicans will have more primary races and more choices on their ballots on Tuesday.

There is the race for candidate for U.S. Senate between Themis Klarides, Leora R. Levy and Peter Lumaj. The winner will oppose incumbent Democrat Richard Blumenthal.

Also, there is the race for the Republican candidate for U.S. Representative in the 4th Congressional District between Jayme Stevenson and Michael Ted Goldstein. The winner will face incumbent Democrat Jim Himes.

And finally, there is the race for the GOP candidate for Secretary of State between Rapini, Weber and Wood. The winner will face the winner of the Thomas/Bond race.
