Controversial Author to Speak at Westport School
The event is free, but there are no tickets left.
Author Salman Rushdie is scheduled to speak Thursday at Staples High School in Westport.
Some parents are worried about the controversial writer’s appearance, according to Westport Now, but schools Superintendent Elliott Landon said he’s “delighted” Rushdie will be speaking at the school.
Landon told Westport Now that he considers it an honor to be the only high school at which Rushdie is appearing.

Security is still a concern, and the district is working with the Westport Police Department to make certain things go smoothly.
Rushdie was the subject of calls for his assassination after his book “Satanic Verses” was published.
