Convicted Teen In 2022 Uber Carjacking In Westport Sent Back To Jail

The 17-year-old reportedly is accused of cutting off a GPS monitoring device from his ankle.

WESTPORT, CT — A 17-year-old Hamden teen, who was convicted in conjunction with a violent, 2022 Westport Uber carjacking case, has been ordered back to prison after the teen was accused of cutting off a GPS monitoring device from his ankle, the Westport News reported.

Kerwin Romero already served a year in custody in the case, which involved an assault on a female Uber driver who was 64 years old at the time. Romero had been sentenced to five years in prison, suspended after serving a year.

The victim suffered a traumatic brain injury in the attack.

Romero was charged with violating the terms of his probation for the GPS device incident, and was sentenced to four years in prison, suspended after he serves 15 months, according to the publication. He will then have nearly five years of probation.
