Dog Left In 113 Degree Car: Westport PD

The dog's owner was charged.

WESTPORT, CT — Police arrested a woman after she left her dog in a 113 degree car while at the YMCA, police said.

Police were dispatched to the location on a report of a dog in a vehicle July 19. The temperature was in the 90's. An animal control officer took the temperature of the vehicle and noted it was 113 degrees and that the dog inside was panting heavily.

The animal control officer entered the vehicle and removed the dog.

Owner Kakesha Williams, 39, eventually came outside and said she didn't think her dog was in jeopardy because she left the windows open about half an inch, police said.

She was charged with cruelty to animals. The dog was taken to an animal hospital as a precaution.
