Electrical Fire Damages Fuse Box In Westport Apartment: FD

The fire was reported at about 2:45 p.m. on Monday.

WESTPORT, CT — A fuse box in a second floor apartment on the Post Road West caught fire Monday afternoon, but it was quickly extinguished by firefighters, according to Westport Assistant Fire Chief Jeffrey Gootman. No injuries were reported.

The fire was called in through an alarm at about 2:45 p.m., and firefighters quickly smelled smoke from the apartment.

"Upon further investigation firefighters found an electrical fire in a utility closet," Gootman said in a statement, adding that three fire engines, a ladder truck, and the shift
commander all responded to the scene.

The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Westport Fire Marshal’s Office.

"The Westport Fire Department reminds all residents that working smoke detectors that are properly installed and maintained play a vital role in reducing fire deaths and injuries," Gootman said. "In this case, the activation of the fire alarm by the smoke detector, and quick notification of the Westport Fire Department, contributed to the prompt extinguishment of this fire with minimal damage."
