Touched By Adoption, LLC, will present two programs addressing the special challenges facing adoptive families. One seminar will be geared for parents and the other for adolescents and young adults.
Zara H. Phillips, author, singer/songwriter, film maker and adult adoptee, will discuss her experiences in an evening for parents which will take place on Tuesday, July 24th from 7-9 pm. The program for adolescents/young adults will be held on Tuesday, August 7, from 7-9 pm. Both programs will be presented in the Servery Room of The Great Hall at Christ & Holy Trinity Church on Myrtle Avenue in Westport.
Phillips is the author of “Mother Me,” a memoir which explores the far-reaching impact of adoption on childhood, adolescence, relationships and self-esteem. She has written articles for adoption magazines and has facilitated lectures and workshops for adoptees of all ages, adoptive parents and professionals. Phillips will be joined by fellow adoptee Andrew Majkowicz, who will share his perspective as well.

“We’re thrilled to bring these programs to town,” said Susan Baron, co-founder of Touched by Adoption. “In our practice we have found that the most effective words are spoken by people who have traveled on a similar journey. Zara is knowledgeable and insightful on this sensitive subject. She offers first-hand experience and advice in an entertaining and inspiring way.”
Phillips has presented at The American Adoption Congress, The Hyde School, Concerned United Birthparents (CUB) and The Center for Adoption Support and Education (CASE). She and fellow adoptee Darryl McDaniels of RUN-DMC have written and performed the song “I’m Legit,” which heightens awareness of the impact of sealed birth records on adoptees. Phillips is also the creator of “Roots: Unknown,” a film about adoption, which she will present during the adult presentation.
