The Family Y’s Summer Sundays are fun days for families to spend quality time together, swim, play outdoor games and enjoy the beautiful scenery and camp facilities of Mahackeno Outdoor Center. Summer Sundays are scheduled for July 8, 15, 22 and 29 and take place from 12 to 4 pm. The activities are free for Y Members; fees for non-members are $15 per adult, $10 per child.
Introduced last July, Summer Sundays attracted dozens of Y families and others to Mahackeno, longtime home of the Family Y’s summer day camp, where they enjoyed many of the same fun, summertime activities as our Mahackeno campers: A large outdoor swimming pool, ball courts and playing fields and canoeing on 12-acre Lees Pond. Children ages eight and older are welcome to summit our 20-ft. climbing wall (belayed by our trained staff), zoom along our new 110-ft. Zipline, or test their skill at our archery range. Children and adults of all ages are welcome at Summer Sundays, though we ask that kids under the age of 14 be accompanied by an adult.
The rustic setting for the Family Y’s popular Camp Mahackeno during the week, these 32 acres of open space and recreational areas are situated along the Saugatuck River, near Exit 41 of the Merritt Parkway. Mahackeno Outdoor Center is at 14 Sunny Lane, Westport, CT. You’ll find it by turning off Route 33 near the Red Barn restaurant; proceed toward the northbound on-ramp of the Merritt, staying in the right lane until you reach the end of Sunny Lane (to be renamed Allen Raymond Lane as construction commences this fall on the new Y facility at Mahackeno).

Camp Mahackeno, part of Westport history

Founded in 1938 as a “stay at home camp” for local boys, Camp Mahackeno remains a rugged and rustic haven, as befits its original role three centuries ago as a summer lodge and hunting grounds for a Native American chief and his tribe.
Today our camp features an array of amenities and programs for boys and girls, including a large outdoor swimming pool, 12-acre pond for canoeing and fishing, climbing wall, Zipline and plenty of space and time for such traditional camp activities as archery, leather making and arts and crafts. There’s also a strong outdoors program for older campers, complete with team-building exercises and local field trips.
We offer four two-week sessions for campers entering grades 1 through 10, as well as a Special Events Week to close out the summer (Aug. 20-24). This year, each week of camp will have a special theme:
Session 1 June 25-July 6
Week 1 - Olympics Week
Week 2 - Space Week
Session 2 July 9- July 20
Week 1 - Sports of all Sorts
Week 2 - Science Week
Session 3 July 23-August 3
Week 1 - Travel Around the World
Week 2 - Arts Week
Session 4 August 6-August 17
Week 1 - Water Week
Week 2 - Holiday Week
