Fire Breaks Out In Ceiling Of Westport Home's Basement: FD

Firefighters opened ceilings and floors to access and extinguish the blaze, according to fire officials.

WESTPORT, CT — Firefighters opened ceilings and floors to access and extinguish a fire the broke out Friday evening at a Silver Brook Road home, according to fire officials.

In a news release, Assistant Fire Chief Jeffrey Gootman said the homeowner reported smoke in their house around 5:30 p.m.

Firefighters responded and located the fire in the ceiling of the home's basement, which was located between the basement and the home's first floor, Gootman said.

Firefighters were able to access and extinguish the fire after opening ceilings and floors in the affected area of the home, Gootman said. No injuries were reported.

Crews from the Wilton and Norwalk fire departments, as well as Westport police and emergency medical services, provided assistance. The Fairfield, Norwalk and Weston fire departments sent crews to Westport fire headquarters to cover additional calls in town, Gootman said.

The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Westport Fire Marshal's Office, Gootman said.
