Westport Drum Lessons by Jimmy Lane

Jimmy Lane is a drummer, teacher and the founder of Westport Drum Lessons. He began taking drum lessons at age 12 and has been actively playing, teaching (and learning!) ever since. In 1995, He began teaching at Merritt Music of New Canaan CT.  Demand grew rapidly, and soon private drum lessons were made available in Westport, and has expanded throughout southern Connecticut into Southport, Fairfield, Weston, Wilton, Norwalk, Redding, and New Canaan. Was  Jim manages to maintain a roster of between 30-40 steady drum students per week with unmatched longevity and loyalty.  "I must be the luckiest person ever." Jim explains: "To be able to share music ideas with these wonderful, interested and aspiring drummers. - Where can you find better company than that? It's a real privilege for me”.  Jim learned the basics from college professor Ray Alexander, who studied with Henry Adler, who was known as the premier drum teacher of the New York scene for the last 55 years. Mr. Adler was well known in the drumming industry as the teacher who was responsible for assisting musically and professionally - the greatest drummer of ALL times: the world famous - Buddy Rich. - The two collaborated on writing the classic and timeless drum method book "Buddy Rich's Snare Drum Rudiments", which is an integral part of Jim's drumming curriculum. There is no substitute for the right fundamental foundation. The students who work with Jim know that they have found the "main vein" of learning the drums. And it is exciting to know that they can trace their roots back to the great Mr. Buddy Rich himself... Jim is pupil-oriented instructor, able to teach beginners, novices, and experts by truly connecting with student at their level, and provide the right focus, insight, and attention that makes drum lessons have much deeper value and meaning. He keeps pupils engaged, inspired and constantly learning: the guiding principle. Jim’s students say it best by showing continued loyalty year after year. The topic for the day:&nbsp;What Do You Worship? Unitarian Universalists often use the word "worship" to describe what happens on Sunday mornings. If many UUs reject traditional religion, why do they hold on to the word "worship"...and more importantly, what exactly are they worshipping?Adam Lawrence Dyer is currently completing a Ph.D. in Modern and Contemporary Religious Thought at the University of Virginia where his research focus is equity, embodiment and liberal religion.&nbsp;&nbsp;He received his BA from Princeton University and his M.Div. from the Pacific School of Religion where he earned the Certificate in Sexuality and Religion and was recognized with the Paul Wesley Yinger Preaching Award.&nbsp;From 2017 to 2022, he was the lead minister at First Parish in Cambridge, and the Unitarian Universalist chaplain at Harvard University and is the author of a collection of meditations on blackness and liberal religion titled Love Beyond God(2016).&nbsp;Click <a href="https://uuwestport.org/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/OOS_5-24-26.pdf" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">HERE</a> for the Order of Service. The Glass House, National Trust for Historic Preservation

As part of the national commemoration of America’s 250th&nbsp;anniversary, The Glass House&nbsp;will,&nbsp;for the first time,&nbsp;open&nbsp;the&nbsp;1783 Grainger House and its&nbsp;celebrated&nbsp;peony and iris&nbsp;garden&nbsp;for public tours.&nbsp;The house sits on one of New Canaan’s earliest registered land parcels and was originally known as the Finch House, named for the early New Canaan family who farmed the land. 
Purchased in 1990&nbsp;by&nbsp;David Whitney,&nbsp;partner of Philip Johnson,&nbsp;the house&nbsp;has been&nbsp;carefully restored to its 18th-century form. Whitney&nbsp;furnished the home with&nbsp;significant modernist art and design, elements that&nbsp;remain&nbsp;on view today, including&nbsp;a striking window etching by artist Michael Heizer.&nbsp;He&nbsp;also created a remarkable garden, planting a rare collection of perennial peonies and irises,&nbsp;and installing a sculpture by&nbsp;artist&nbsp;Alessandro Twombly. 
Together, the house and garden vividly illustrate the dialogue between early American architectural traditions and the 20th-century art and design that define The Glass House.

Step into one of the most iconic movie nights of the summer as Youth United and Habitat for Humanity of Coastal Fairfield County bring Ferris Bueller’s Day Off to the big screen at SHU Community Theatre in Fairfield.
Join local students, families, and community supporters for an unforgettable evening featuring the classic film, incredible raffle prizes, music, merch, and more — all to help build Habitat homes for local families right here in our community.
Doors open at 5:30 PM with the movie beginning at 6:00 PM. Guests can also enter raffles for amazing prizes including concert tickets, sporting events, gift cards, and exclusive experiences donated by generous Fairfield-area businesses.
Before the movie, members of Youth United will share how local teens are making a real impact through Habitat for Humanity by helping support current home builds in Bridgeport and Fairfield while raising awareness for the organization’s mission.
