Americans dispose of an estimated 20 million mattresses and box springs every year. That’s roughly 55,000 discarded to incinerators and landfills each and every day! Don’t throw away your old mattress - Sustainable Westport and Earthplace will host their FREE BI-ANNUAL mattress/box spring recycling event on Saturday, May 20, from 8:30-11:30 a.m. at Earthplace.
Up to 90% of old mattresses can be recycled into new products like carpet pads, cushioning for exercise equipment and bike seats, insulation, air filters, and steel materials. Bring your dry, unsoiled mattress and/or box spring and be part of the zero-waste solution!
Unable to transport your own mattress or box spring? Westport’s Boy Scout Troop 36 will provide pickup service for a small donation. Sign up here.
