Skyrocketing Unemployment, Food Insecurity and Breast Cancer Are a Catastrophic Mix For Women in the U.S. Living Without Adequate Insurance, Pink Aid Helps Ease the Burden.
A breast cancer diagnosis can be devastating for patients and their families - physically, emotionally and financially. This year, it's estimated that 276,480 new cases of invasive breast cancer will be diagnosed in the U.S. Many Americans live paycheck-to-paycheck and each year, 50% of bankruptcies filed are the result of illness or illness-related job loss. The current pandemic with its impact on employment is only further fueling the financial crisis in families across the country.

For ten years, Pink Aid has addressed many of the financial needs facing patients and has granted more than $6.5 M to 47 organizations in Connecticut & Long Island to pay for screening initiatives, outreach and education and provide for essential household expenses. Through its Pink Purse Initiative, Pink Aid has provided emergency financial support directly to more than 20000 women and men allowing them to pay rents and mortgages, keep their lights and heat on and keep themselves and their families fed.

Pink Aid's Pink Purse is expanding to help even more breast cancer patients beyond our region. To meet those needs, we are launching "The Pink Aid Lipstick Challenge", a social media campaign created to spread awareness and raise funds for Pink Aid's Pink Purse expansion efforts. Be prepared to Pucker Up, Post & Pledge! Participants are encouraged to put on their pinkest lipstick and post themselves, a friend, or a pet sending a $10 virtual kiss in support of patients struggling financially and in need of support now. Post your challenge to FB/Instagram/TikTok with #pinkaidlipstickchallenge and tag a friend or friends to take the challenge too. Easy! Today, it feels that there is so much we cannot do - the Lipstick Challenge is a safe and effective way to share your love and compassion with those in need.
