Got Stress? iFloat reopens in Westport to provide relief
This Monday, January 16th, iFloat reopens in downtown Westport under new ownership, offering float sessions and seminars for people who want to relax, relieve stress, and to enhance their mental fitness and agility. Each of iFloat’s four large float chamber holds nearly 1000 lbs of epsom salt in 9” of warm water, enabling clients to float effortlessly. Floating relaxes the body deeply. By limiting distractions from light, sound, temperature and gravity, floating also frees up large amounts brain circuitry that would otherwise be used to process sensory input.
Floating has been available commercially for over 40 years, but gained wider popularity in the past few years as professional athletes like Steph Curry and Tom Brady and celebrities like Joe Rogan talked about its benefits. Many people report that floating helps their muscle pain, stress, anxiety, insomnia, migraines, and fibromyalgia. "iFloat has had a lot of support from the community and we've received an enthusiastic response to the news that iFloat has a new owner," says Terri Stangl, a retired attorney and float facilitator at iFloat, who recently moved to the Westport area after working at float centers in both Michigan and New Jersey. She immediately noticed how often people in the Fairfield County area talk about stress. iFloat's new owner. Elise Cummiskey, already owns Art of Floating in Bloomsburg, Pennsylvania.
Stangl explains that while floating is deeply relaxing to the body, it also has significant benefits for the mind. “When people float, their bodies relax and they enter a mental state which is similar to what we experience in the first dream cycle of sleep. This type of thinking is slower, more fluid, and flows in a different direction than what we normally consider ‘thought’. ” Stangl adds that when people experience this slower type of thinking, they often are able to recognize and make changes to longstanding mental patterns and behaviors that start in early childhood - what the scientist who invented the float tank referred to as mental programming. “This slower kind of thinking is particularly useful for those in business, sales, the arts or any endeavors that require creative thinking and effective problem-solving communication. Before the introduction of float tanks we didn’t have the language to talk about and explore these different types of thought.”
iFloat offers a curriculum of seminars for individuals, couples, and business groups, in which participants learn both a language and skill set that they can use to recognize and communicate about what is occurring within their own thinking machinery and to make adjustments that will work better for whatever they are trying to accomplish.
iFloat is booking appointments and offering prepaid float sessions and gift certificates for 50% off through January 15. IFloat is open daily from 9 AM to 9:30 PM. More information about floating and iFloat is available at www.ifloatct.com or by calling 203-226-7378.
