Great Duck Race/Sidewalk Sales This Weekend In Westport

WESTPORT, CT — Westport Sunrise Rotary is scheduled to host its annual Great Duck Race from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, at Jesup Green as well as the Taylor Municipal Parking Lot.

Also, beginning on Friday, shops throughout the downtown area will hold sidewalk sales, which will run from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. through Sunday, according to the Westport Downtown Association.

Westport police have issued a traffic advisory for the downtown area for both events.

"In order to accommodate for the set-up of the various activities associated with the [duck race], please be advised that the municipal lot will be completely closed to the public beginning on the evening of Friday, June 23, and will re-open on the afternoon of Saturday, June 24," Westport police wrote in a statement.

With so many merchants expected to participate in the sidewalk sales, police warn motorists to be on alert.

"With the additional limitations on parking due to the Duck Race event, motorists should expect increased pedestrian traffic as well as traffic delays in the downtown area throughout the day," police said. "Attendees are additionally reminded to use the marked crosswalks in the area when visiting these events."
