The following announcement is from Earthplace:

WESTPORT, CT — Harbor Watch (HW) at Earthplace is a non-profit working to protect the Long Island Sound estuary and the waters that feed it. After 30 years, their trusted old research boat, the “Annie” has retired, and we need to keep Harbor Watch afloat! This year, all funds raised at our annual Cocktails & Clams event will help the team acquire a new custom boat that will be used for harbor-based research and education programs throughout Fairfield County.

The HW team is led by Nikki Spiller, whose passion for the ocean started at a young age and has continued throughout her career - starting as an intern at Harbor Watch during college, and has grown within the organization to her position as the new Director of Harbor Watch. Nikki leads a team of four, full-time women research scientists, part-time staff, over 150 students annually during the HW high school and collegiate level programs, along with many community partners including Copps Island Oysters, conservation departments, and watershed groups. The team also produces annual monitoring reports highlighting seasonal physical, chemical, and biological trends to evaluate ecosystem health which are used by local municipalities and the CT Department of Energy and Environmental Protection to address pollution issues in our waterways.
