It's a Staples "Three-Peat" In Field Hockey Finals [VIDEO]

The Wreckers converted a pair of penalty corners in the second half to turn back Cheshire in the Class L finals Sunday.

WETHERSFIELD, CT — Despite dominating the action throughout most of the contest, Staples High School was held scoreless by top-seeded Cheshire for nearly 42 minutes of their Class L field hockey championship game Sunday at Wethersfield High School.

The Wreckers, seeded No. 2, had plenty of chances to score, but failed to convert on 11 eleven penalty corners in the first half and their first two after intermission.

The 14th time was the charm, however, as Kyle Kirby scored off a corner with 18:17 remaining in regulation time. She added a second goal five minutes later of another corner, propelling the Wreckers to a 2-0 victory for their third straight Class L title.
