Judge Shortens Prison Term Of Westport Man In Child Porn Case: Report

Michael Newman, 67, was arrested in May 2021.

WESTPORT, CT — A 67-year-old Westport man, who had been sentenced to one year in prison in connection with a child pornography case, last week had his sentence reduced to one month behind bars, reported the Stamford Advocate.

Michael Newman was arrested in May 2021, and reportedly pleaded guilty this past September to promoting a minor in an obscene performance. Under the plea deal, the other related charges he faced were dropped.

"During an examination of the devices that were seized," Westport police said in a news release, "images of suspected child pornography allegedly downloaded by Michael Newman were located."

Newman had been a drug addiction counselor at the time of his arrest.

Judge Gary White, who had said he would consider reducing the initial one-year sentence, did so after Newman's attorney, Fred Ury, requested it.
