Kindergarten Registration For 2024-25 Year Continues In Westport

A school-based informational meeting about Kindergarten is scheduled for March.

Information from Westport Public Schools:

WESTPORT, CT — The 2024-2025 Kindergarten Registration is underway.

Beginning July 1, 2024, Connecticut General Statute requires that children turn five years old on or before September 1 of the school year in order to enroll in kindergarten. However, because of the timing of this change and the challenges this may cause families, Westport Public Schools has developed the following transitional plan for the 2024-25 school year:

Any child who is not five years old on or before September 1, 2024 but turns five before January 1,
2025, may be admitted to kindergarten upon written request by the child’s parent or guardian to the school principal. If you have further questions about this process, please contact your school’s
principal.

Registering your child as soon as possible, allows the District to optimally plan for your new kindergartener. All registration information is located on the district website, via the “Kindergarten Registration” link under the PARENTS tab. It is also available on the district website via Quicklinks.

Parents and/or caregivers of registered children will be invited to attend a school-based informational meeting about Kindergarten on Friday, March 1 from 10:00-11:00. At this time, you will have an opportunity to hear more details about Kindergarten from kindergarten teachers and other staff members. This event is for parents and/caregivers only. In May, an orientation session will occur at your child’s elementary school for both you and your child. A school specific invitation will be sent to all registered kindergarten families. If you are unsure about the elementary school your child should attend, please go to our school locator.
