Lightning Strike Ignites Westport House Blaze: Fire Department
The fire occurred Wednesday afternoon on Sleigh Ridge Road.
WESTPORT, CT — Lightning struck the roof of a home on Sleigh Ridge Road in Westport Wednesday, igniting a blaze that had to be extinguished by Westport firefighters, according to officials.
The fire was reported just before 5 p.m. and was contained to the attic.
"The fire in the attic was quickly extinguished while the ladder truck extinguished the remaining fire on the roof," wrote Assistant Westport Fire Chief Jeffrey Gootman in a statement, adding that the Fire Marshal's Office made the determination that the fire was caused by lightning.

Four fire engines, one ladder truck, the shift commander and the safety officer were called to the scene, in addition to Westport police and EMS personnel, but whether there were any injuries was not disclosed. Arriving units found a small fire coming from the roof.
