Update: Two Men Tried to Disrupt Event at Temple Israel in Westport in Police Custody

Two schools in town went into lockdown after a disturbance at Temple Israel.

Update 4 p.m.: Two men who were allegedly intent on protesting the event were detained and held until police arrived, according to Westport Now. Temple President Steven Phillips said no one was in physical danger at any point.

Update: Two people have been charged following the disturbance at the temple, according to News 12.

Cautionary lockdowns at Coleytown Elementary and middle schools were in place between about 1 and 1:45 p.m. Tuesday afternoon after an incident involving intruders at Friends of the Israel Defense Forces luncheon.

The luncheon was happening at nearby Temple Israel when someone screamed there was an intruder in the building, according to he Norwalk Hour.

A scuffle ensued and it’s currently unclear if anyone was arrested, according to the Hour.

Westport Police declined to comment and said it’s an ongoing investigation.
