New Canaan Country School Hires Greens Farms Academy Administrator

NEW CANAAN, CT — Alex Wellman, currently Assistant Director of College Guidance and Sophomore Class Academic Dean at Westport's Greens Farms Academy, has been hired by New Canaan Country School as Head of Upper School (Grades 7 - 9), effective at the start of the 2017-18 school year.

"This search attracted many strong candidates," said Dr. Robert Macrae, NCCS Head of School, in a statement. "We were looking for someone with a passion for education to bring energy and vision to our Upper School, and we have certainly found that in Alex."

Wellman has worked at Greens Farms Academy since 2008, where he has held several other positions over the years, including Freshman Class Dean, Upper School Admission Associate and English teacher.

Prior to his work at GFA, Alex taught English and Spanish for one year at Kimball Union Academy. Alex holds an M.A. in English Literature and a B.A. in English and Spanish Literature from Middlebury College.

Following the search process, school parents and faculty described Alex as “thoughtful; personable; sincere; passionate; enthusiastic; approachable; articulate, extremely genuine; confident; level-headed; engaging and intelligent.”
