New Jersey Woman Accused Of Fraudulent Check Scam In Westport: Police
The suspect is accused of stealing a check and fraudulently depositing it, according to Westport police.

WESTPORT, CT — A 27-year-old Elizabeth, New Jersey woman was arrested this week on a warrant charging her with larceny and forgery, after Westport police said she stole a check for $560, altered it to read $5,500, and fraudulently deposited it.
Rosimer Martinez-Castillo was charged with third-degree larceny, second-degree forgery and conspiracy in connection with the case, which began in December 2021.
Westport police received a complaint from a local person that a check they had mailed from their home for $560 was stolen, forged to read $5,500, and deposited in an unknown account.

"Through the use of search warrants, video surveillance, and law enforcement sharing, Rosimer Martinez-Castillo was identified as a suspect," said Westport Police Lt. Eric Woods in a statement.
An arrest warrant for Martinez-Castillo was obtained, and on Monday, Westport police went and picked her up from the Middlesex County New Jersey Correctional Facility, where she was in custody.

She was released after posting bond on bail of $50,000, and is scheduled to appear in Stamford Superior Court on March 11.
