Kimberly Ambrosio has been announced as the next principal of Long Lots Elementary School in Westport.

WESTPORT, CT — The Westport Board of Education announced Tuesday that Kimberly Ambrosio has been named the next principal of Long Lots Elementary School. She is scheduled to begin the position July 1.

According to a news release, Ambrosio has served as interim principal of Long Lots since December. Prior to that, she served as an assistant principal at the school.

"Kim Ambrosio has a strong track record of leadership during her 17 years in the Westport Public Schools as a teacher, an instructional leader and an assistant principal," Superintendent Tom Scarice said in a news release. District officials described Ambrosio as a skilled leader who brings exceptional talent and experience as an elementary educator to the role of principal.

Ambrosio began her career in education as a fifth grade teacher with the New Haven Public Schools in 2003. The following year, she joined the teaching staff of Long Lots Elementary School as a fifth grade teacher.

Seeking to broaden her experience, Ambrosio taught kindergarten at the school from 2008 to 2011, after which she was appointed as the district's K-5 math and literacy coordinator.

All of these teaching roles were recognized by the district when she was promoted to key leadership positions, including principal of the extended school year program and co-leader of the district elementary mathematics program, according to district officials.

In 2014, Ambrosio was appointed as an assistant principal at Coleytown Elementary School, a position she held until 2018 when the district restructured its elementary leadership model. That summer, she returned to Long Lots as an assistant principal and later took on the added responsibility of interim principal this past December.

"Over the course of her 17 years of exemplary work as a teacher, teacher leader and administrator," the release reads, "Mrs. Ambrosio has excelled at building meaningful relationships with all stakeholders in the schools."

Ambrosio holds a bachelor of science degree in marketing from the University of Connecticut and a master of science in elementary education from the University of Bridgeport. She also holds a certificate of advanced studies in educational leadership from Sacred Heart University.
