New Westport-Based Sitcom Removes the 'Fat' in Title
And that's not all it changed.

WESTPORT, CT - You can no longer call the main character of a new ABC Television show "The Second Fattest Housewife in Westport."
The show, which stars "Mike and Molly" veteran Katy Mixon, is set in the affluent Fairfield County community where the main character is a little curvier than many of the other moms. It's scheduled to debut this fall.
Network honchos recently decided to change the title to "American Housewife," reports Entertainment Weekly, because as one executive says the Mixon character, Katie Otto, is universal. And they want the show to appeal to women throughout the country, not just those who might be familiar with Westport.

If executives also felt a twinge of political incorrectness by the title, they did not let on to Entertainment Weekly. In fact, in the official trailer below, Mixon's character openly discusses and jokes about her weight, even uttering the phrase that she's the "second fattest housewife in Westport."
ABC has high hopes for "American Housewife," placing it among its Tuesday night block of sitcoms, between "The Middle" and "Fresh Off the Boat," according to the network.
