New Westport Business Zoning Amendment To Be Discussed

From the Town of Westport: Mary Young, Planning & Zoning Director, announced today that on June 20, 2019, the Planning & Zoning Commission will review an amendment to the Westport Zoning Regulations.

William J. Fitzpatrick, III, submitted Text Amendment #771. The amendment proposes to modify Sections 24A-5, 24A-8, and 24A-13 of the Zoning Regulations to increase design flexibility in the General Business District/Saugatuck (GBD/S) zone.

Mary Young described, “Mr. Fitzpatrick applied for a Text Amendment to the General Business District/Saugatuck to increase the allowable height to three stories, permit a single building of 20,000 square feet, and to mirror the provision of Section 34-8, the Joint Parking section of the Regulations. The proposal may encourage multi-family residential housing by taking advantage of the proximity to the train station. At the June 20th public hearing the proposal will be discussed and regulations potentially adopted. That is the purpose of our upcoming meeting.”

All those interested in this amendment are encouraged to attend the Planning & Zoning Commission’s public hearing on June 20, 2019 at 7:00 PM at Town Hall in Room 201/201A. Copies of the amendment are attached herein and are available for viewing in Town Hall both in the P&Z Office and in the Office of the Town Clerk as well as online at www.westportct.gov. For those who cannot attend this hearing, it will be livestreamed over the internet on the Town’s website, recorded and archived for future viewing.

The Planning and Zoning Commission can receive written comments from the public in advance of the hearing. Comments should be sent toPandZ@westportct.gov. Once the public hearing is closed, no more information or comments will be accepted.
