New York Man Arrested After Westport Police Discover He Was In Stolen Car

WESTPORT, CT — A Bronx, New York man was arrested Monday after Westport police learned, with the help of a license plate reader, that he was driving a car that had been reported stolen out of East Haven.

Tayquon Underhill, 24, was stopped at about 5:15 p.m. on Monday on the Post Road West in Westport. An officer was alerted by the license plate reader that the Kia Forte Underhill was driving had been reported stolen the day before.

"Underhill claimed that the vehicle belonged to an acquaintance," Westport Police Lt. Anthony Prezioso wrote in a statement. "Computer checks showed that his operator’s license was currently under suspension. He was taken into
custody."

Police charged Underhill with operating under suspension and first-offense larceny of a motor vehicle.

He remains in custody in lieu of bail of $5,000, and he is scheduled to appear in Stamford Superior Court on Oct. 19.
