Norwalk Resident Selected as 'Face of Race for the Cure' May 7 at Sherwood Island in Westport
World Wrestling Entertainment's Stephanie McMahon will serve as the event's grand marshal.

WESTPORT, CT - Norwalk resident Erin Lavery, 33, has been selected as the 2016 "Face of Race for the Cure," the Susan G. Komen Southern New England's annual 5K Run/5K Walk at Sherwood Island State Park in Westport on May 7.
Stephanie McMahon, Chief Brand Officer for Stamford-based World Wrestling Entertainment, will serve as the event's grand marshal, reports the Westport News.
The Saturday event begins at 7:30 a.m. with a survivor's breakfast, and in addition to the choice of running (timed or untimed) or walking the 5K (3.1 miles), there is also a kids 1K for those under the age of 16.

Lavery was diagnosed with Stage 1A breast cancer in the fall of 2014. A runner, Lavery had to temporarily give up the sport during treatment, but quickly returned, in part because it not only helped her physically but also mentally, she said.
“I believe I have a greater purpose in this world and for this disease, and I want to be a resource for other young women who are fighting,” Lavery said in a statement.

Since 2012, the WWE has raised $1.6 million for the Komen organization.
