NY Duo Caught Stealing Cooking Oil from Westport Restaurant: Police

The pair, both from Yonkers, were apprehended behind a Post Road eatery.

WESTPORT, CT — Two people were apprehended behind the Five Guys burger restaurant on the Post Road East July 18, caught in the act of siphoning cooking oil out of the Westport eatery's tank, according to police.

Arrested on charges of sixth-degree Larceny and Conspiracy to Commit Larceny were Alondra Aracil, 19, and Jonathan Garces, 22, both of Yonkers, NY. Aracil was additionally charged with Interfering with an Officer and Criminal Impersonation for allegedly giving police a false name and date of birth. Also Garces, who is not supposed to have contact with Aracil, was additionally charged with Violation of a Protective Order.

The incident began at about 10 a.m. when police were called to the restaurant on a report that the occupants of a white van with New York license plates were allegedly stealing cooking oil. When officers arrived, they saw the Aracil and Garces actively siphoning the oil out of the tank.

Both were released after posting bond and were scheduled to appear in Norwalk Superior Court on July 26. The status of their cases was not immediately available.
