NY Man Accused Of Stealing Check From Westport Victim: Police

The suspect is accused of depositing the check in a Bank of America account that he had illegally accessed, according to Westport police.

WESTPORT, CT — A 25-year-old New York City man was arrested on a warrant charging him with first-degree larceny, and related violations, after Westport police said the man stole a check from A Westport resident and fraudulently deposited it in his bank account.

In addition to first-degree larceny, Waldo Ulloa was also charged with second-degree forgery, and criminal attempt at second-degree larceny.

Westport police started the investigation in November 2022, when a resident "reported that a check he mailed, had been stolen, altered, and deposited into a Bank of America account."

The amount of the check was not disclosed, but first-degree larceny is for amounts in excess of $10,000.

Police obtained a search warrant for the Bank of America account, and discovered that it had allegedly been illegally accessed by Ulloa.

"Along with the account records, the investigating detective also secured ATM surveillance footage of the transaction where Mr. Ulloa allegedly negotiated and deposited the check," Westport Police Lt. Eric Woods wrote in a statement.

Ulloa was arrested on Sept. 6, and was released after posting bond on bail of $75,000; he is scheduled to appear in Stamford Superior Court on Oct. 27.
