NY Man Accused Of Stealing Westport Residents' Identities: Police

The suspect is accused of stealing mail in Westport, according to authorities.

WESTPORT, CT — A 24-year-old Bronx, New York man was arrested by Westport police this week in connection with identity theft cases in town, according to authorities.

Anderson Labadie-Matos was charged with the following:

  • Illegal Possession of Personal ID
  • Identity Theft, 3rd degree
  • Illegal Traffic in Personal ID

The investigation into Labadie-Matos began in August 2022, when New Canaan police started a probe into stolen mail in that town.

"During the investigation, it was determined that the suspect, Anderson Labadie-Matos, had also stolen mail from Westport, and we were able to identify the victims," said Westport Police Lt. Eric Woods in a statement. "Search warrants were issued for cell phones, which confirmed that Mr. Labadie-Matos had been stealing and/or in possession of stolen checks from various residents in Westport."

Details of the Westport thefts, and the amounts in question, were not disclosed.

Labadie-Matos was released after posting bond on bail of $50,000, and he is scheduled to appear in Stamford Superior Court on June 7.
