The following obituary of Westport resident Daisy McCann, 98, is from Shaughnessey Banks Funeral Home:
Daisy McCann of Westport, CT passed away on April 21, 2023, surrounded by her family. She lived a long and wonderful life leaving behind a legacy of love, faith and a commitment to giving back to her community.
Daisy was born in New York City on May 31, 1924. After graduating from high school, she entered Hunter College where she obtained her bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education. After WWII, she met and married a Navy veteran, Hugh Francis McCann (Bud), now deceased. They moved to Westport in 1959, where all six of their children lived and attended school: Hugh McCann, Jr. (Sarah) of Venice, FL; Marguerite Francis of New London, NH; Tom McCann (Mary Jo) of Nantucket, MA; Rosemary Semanski (Paul) of West Hartford, CT; Tim McCann (Tricia) of Easton CT; and Rich McCann (Tina) of Darien, CT. Daisy was a proud grandmother to Katie, Scott, Kristen, Brittany, Shana, Kyle, Conor, Erin, Ali, Jack and Colin. Nothing pleased her more than watching all of them grow, marry and bring her the exceptional gift of seven great grandchildren. She loved shopping for all of the wee ones in her extended family, and nothing brought a smile to her face more than their visits.

Daisy was a trustee at St. Luke Parish in Westport where she organized ladies’ luncheons for several decades and hosted generations of priests at her holiday parties. She loved to feed people; it was her love language, whether at the church, in her home, or at the Norwalk Soup Kitchen. In recent years, attending St. Luke’s regularly became more challenging, yet she never missed her daily digital Mass. She leaves this earth with an undying religious faith, welcomed into that next realm by a large group of family and friends who predeceased her. She lived a long and abundant life and will be missed dearly by those who knew her.
A Requiem Mass was held on April 29 at St. Luke Catholic Church in Westport. Interment followed in Assumption Cemetery.
