Pennsylvania Man Accused Of Stealing $25,550 Check In Westport: Police
The check was reported stolen and fraudulently deposited in October, according to Westport police.
WESTPORT, CT — A 31-year-old Allentown, Pennsylvania man was arrested on a charge of first-degree larceny by Westport police this week, in connection with the theft and fraudulent deposit of a check written out for $25,550, according to authorities.
Jason Lumas, who surrendered to Westport police on Tuesday, was also charged with third-degree identity theft in connection with the October incident.
Westport police said that the department initiated an investigation in early October after receiving a complaint that the check "was intercepted in the mail, fraudulently endorsed and deposited."

"The complainant stated they used a blue USPS mailbox tomail the check," wrote Westport Police Lt. Eric Woods in a statement. "On October 13, 2023, the check was deposited into a TD Bank Account. Through the use of search warrants, surveillance images, and law enforcement sharing, Jason Lumas was identified as the suspect who deposited the check."
Police obtained a warrant for Lumas, which led to his arrest on Tuesday. He was released after posting bond on bail of $50,000, and is scheduled to appear in Stamford Superior Court on Jan. 30.
