Police Investigating Bitcoin Email Scam: Westport PD

WESTPORT, CT — Police said the department received complaints from multiple Westport businesses Thursday afternoon regarding a suspicious scam email. According to a news release, the emails attempted to extort payment from victims in Bitcoin currency.

Police said they have confirmed businesses in other surrounding towns have received similar emails. (To sign up for Westport breaking news alerts and more, click here.)

Any Westport business that receives these emails is asked to contact the police department via the non-emergency phone number at (203) 341-6000. These incidents are being investigated by the Westport Detective Bureau.
