Popular Westport New Year's Eve Celebration Cancelled

WESTPORT, CT — Residents will not be ringing in 2019 at the annual First Night Westport celebration, as the event has been cancelled this year. The cancellation was announced on the event's website.

"To our loyal attendees, First Night 2019 has been cancelled," the website reads. (To sign up for Westport breaking news alerts and more, click here.)

According to the Norwalk Hour, event officials cited lack of funds due to last year's low attendance caused by terrible weather as the reason behind the decision. Barbara Pearson-Rac, the president of the First Night board, told the paper the celebration may return next year.

The Board of Directors works all year to plan the First Night event, according to the website. The event also requires hundreds of dedicated volunteers working together on New Year's Eve to create a successful celebration.
