Proposed Westport Schools Budget Aggressively Downsizes Staff
The Board of Education acted on the budget this week.
WESTPORT, CT — More than 20 staff positions are slated to be cut next year under the proposed $118,500,464 operating budget for Westport Public Schools in an aggressive round of downsizing, reports the Connecticut Post.
The budget, which was approved by the Board of Education Monday, represents a 2 percent increase over the 2018-19 allocation, but the amount is still not enough to save the positions.
According to Schools Superintendent Colleen Palmer, the cuts are due to declining enrollment and the closure of Coleytown Middle School over mold issues. Under the proposed allocation, Westport will operate seven public schools next year and not the usual eight.
