Proposed Westport Zoning Amendment To Be Discussed At P&Z Public Hearing On Monday
The proposed amendment would add standards for expansion and redevelopment of existing nursing homes and/or skilled nursing facilities.
WESTPORT, CT — Planner Michael Kiselak has announced that on June 27, 2022 at 7:00 PM, the Planning and Zoning Commission is holding a public hearing on Text Amendment #817 to modify the Zoning Regulations. The meeting will be held virtually via Zoom.
Text Amendment #817, submitted by Richard Redniss of Redniss and Mead, proposes to add new section §6-7, Renovation of Existing Nursing Home or Skilled Nursing Facility, which includes standards for expansion and redevelopment of existing nursing homes and/or skilled nursing facilities into a new medical facility specializing in the care of Alzheimer’s, Dementia, and/or other memory-impairments. New zoning standards specifically for the redevelopment are provided for setbacks, height, coverage, and floor area. Text Amendment #817 can be viewed online here.

The target beneficiary, and only property eligible to benefit in Westport, is 1 Burr Road, which is currently being used as a nursing home by the Westport Rehabilitation Complex.
The applicant stated in their Explanatory Statement that the aim of the amendment is:

“To help maintain, enhance, and meet the growing need for Senior Housing options, and to help redevelop existing nonconforming nursing homes or skilled nursing facilities.”
The June 27, 2022 public hearing will be live streamed at 7:00 PM on the Town’s website at www.westportct.gov, and accessible on Optimum Government Access Channel 79 and Frontier Channel 6020. Comments can be sent prior to the meeting at PandZ@westportct.gov and interested parties may join the meeting virtually to offer live testimony during the meeting.
