Republican Toni Boucher Nominated To Run For 26th District Post

The following announcement is from the campaign of Toni Boucher:

WESTPORT, CT — Toni Boucher was unanimously endorsed for the Republican nomination for state senate by delegates at the 26th District Convention.

“I am humbled and gratified by this unanimous endorsement,” Boucher said. “I love public service, helping others and making a positive difference in people’s lives. I am deeply concerned about the direction of our state during these challenging times and can no longer watch on the sidelines.”

“Polarization, lack of bipartisanship and compromise in state politics has escalated much to the disappointment of the public. It is time to recover the lost trust in our government. We need civility in our public discourse. Free expression is a pillar of our democracy. It is one of the reasons I am running for office this year along with protecting our schools and zoning and supporting law enforcement. I know we can do better. I will campaign tirelessly from now until November, and if Democrat, Independent and Republican voters put their faith in me again, I will work tirelessly for them as their state senator.”

Boucher served as 26th District State Senator from 2008 to 2019 and as a State Representative from 1997 to 2008.

Boucher said her top issues include:

1. protecting parents’ rights and decisions over their children’s education

2. protecting local control regarding residential property rights.

3. making Connecticut’s communities safer

4. making Connecticut more affordable through tax relief

Boucher has served as a State Board of Education member, a local Board of Education chair, and a local Selectman.

Toni is known as a tireless worker and fierce protector of the district, a champion of the people’s voices over political partisanship. She has developed strong and trusting relationships on all sides of the aisle that has benefited the 26th district. Her moderate social views and conservative fiscal positions have won her cross over votes from democrats, unaffiliated and republicans for many years. Her numerous public service awards include twice being named “Environmental Champion” by the Connecticut League of Conservation Voters and being named “Children’s Champion” by the Connecticut Early Childhood Alliance on seven separate occasions.

“I look forward to reintroducing myself to voters,” Boucher said. “I am a listener, a coalition-builder and a problem-solver. I am also a mother, a grandmother, and someone with extensive private sector experience. I want to get off the sidelines and get back to helping to improve Connecticut. I am asking for your vote in November, because I know I can again make a positive difference at the State Capitol. I will be your voice.”

Boucher is a pro-choice, socially moderate, fiscal conservative who supports and voted for gay rights.

She has a long record of supporting education and mass transit infrastructure investments.

“As a state legislator, I built strong relationships throughout our area communities with so many caring, generous, wonderful people. I also built a strong record of bipartisan legislative policy accomplishments which have helped to improve the quality of life for people of all ages across Connecticut.”

The convention delegates voted for Toni Boucher because they believe this race is about trust. They trust her to serve the interests of the newly expanded State Senate 26th district and not special interests during these challenging times.

The 26th State Senate District includes Wilton, Westport, Weston, Redding and parts of Ridgefield, New Canaan, Darien and Stamford.
