Circle of Care, a charitable organization assisting children who suffer from cancer and their families, created “Art From The Heart” whereby volunteers decorate hospital rooms for these children. On Friday, June 14, 2019, several employees and their family members from MBIA, Inc. devoted the afternoon to making over the hospital room of 10 -year-old Eden Kopreski, of Westport, CT. Eden is undergoing treatment for T-Cell ALL (Acute Lymphobastic Leukemia). Eden and her mother, Elia, Father, Ryan, and her 11-year-old twin brothers, Lucas and Gavin, met with MBIA team leader, Amy Gonch, in April to discuss Eden’s dream room.

Eden imagined a bedroom with a view of the Himalayan Mountains, a vanity for putting on her makeup and wig, a sitting area by the window for reading books, and a spacious closet for hanging her dresses and storing her shoes. She also wanted a dog bed to convince Polly, the family’s miniature Schnoodle, to spend more time with her in the room.

Thirteen volunteers worked full-time for three days to complete the room makeover. They removed wallpaper from the walls, painted the walls a sky blue color, and added new furniture. . Eden received everything she wished for ; a mirror-covered wardrobe and a full size daybed placed in front of the window for snuggling up with a good book. The room also included a vanity stocked with makeup and hair supplies. Volunteer artist Adam Bergonzi painted a stunning Himalayan Mountain canvas that was dressed up to look like Eden’s window view.

And to prevent Eden’s twin brothers from feeling left out, they also received some room upgrades that included a cosmic universe wall mural, new bedding, curtains and lighting.

MBIA Inc. employees have participated in more than a dozen room makeovers for Circle of Care since 2012. “Partnering with Circle of Care and helping these young children has been an extremely rewarding experience for the entire MBIA team. We recognize the importance a room makeover can have as a respite for children who face an extraordinary test of courage at a very young age,” said Amy Gonch. “It is an honor and a privilege to be able to help them and their families.”
