Sentence Handed Down To Defendant In Westport Carjacking: Report
The victim, a woman in her 60s, reportedly suffered a traumatic brain injury in the incident.
WESTPORT, CT — An 18-year-old New Haven man was sentenced to one year in prison Tuesday in connection with a carjacking in Westport last March that resulted in the victim, an Uber driver in her 60s, suffering from a traumatic brain injury, reported the Westport News.
Giovanni Abreu pleaded guilty in Stamford Superior to charges of first-degree larceny, interfering with police and engaging police in pursuit. His sentence was five years in prison, which will be suspended after he serves one year.
The attack occurred in a parking lot on the Post Road East, and the suspects led police on a chase on Interstate 95 before they were caught following a crash in Bridgeport.

Abreu is one of four suspects arrested in the incident; two are juveniles, and the fourth is New Haven resident Tayvion "Riz" Hart, 18, whose case is still pending.
