Shellfishing History Tour Hosted by Westport Historical Society
The tour features a look at the industry with Norm Bloom & Son Copps Island Oysters.
WESTPORT, CT — A field trip to the Norm Bloom & Son Copps Island Oysters facility in East Norwalk is the highlight of a shellfishing history tour hosted by the Westport Historical Society on Aug. 30 and Sept. 13.
"Learn first-hand how shellfish are commercially raised and harvested, and how this valuable, green farming industry depends on good quality water," writes the society on its website. "Join Norm Bloom and Harbor Watch Staff for this fun and educational experience as we board a commercial fishing boat off Norwalk, and see how oysters are harvested and processed."
The tour runs from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. on both days and is limited to 30 participants. The cost is a $10 donation to society's educational programs. For more information, visit the Westport Historical Society website.
