Westport, CT - When local volunteers were planning how to get the word out about a new pilot program to advance solar in Westport, they partnered with local non-profit organizations to spread the word to residents. In return for that support, Westport’s official Solarize installer, Encon Solar, agreed to provide a donation to these organizations for every referral that resulted from that support.
Solarize Westport achieved strong support from the community, with more than 50 residents signing contracts to install solar over the 20-week program, more than doubling the amount of solar in Westport from the previous seven years. Residents who signed contracts with Encon were able to save on average $9,000 off their solar systems. While the Solarize Westport program officially ended in January, 2013, Encon Solar announced today it was distributing a total of $800 in contributions to EarthPlace, The nature Discovery Center and Wakeman Town Farm as part of their support for Solarize Westport.
Marie Dalton-Meyer, Interim Executive Director of Earthplace expressed gratitude for the contribution. “Earthplace is proud to partner with Encon on the Solarize Westport effort and to help spread the word. We are grateful for this contribution as a result of that partnership. This effort and the installation of solar panels on the main building at Earthplace support our mission of building a passion in our community for nature and the environment through education, experience and action. “

“We want to thank the hard working volunteers of Westport for making our Solarize program a big success,” said Glenn Cucinell of Encon Solar. “Without the support of the community, and these two non-profit organizations, we would not have been able to achieve these results.”
