Speer Tosses Three-Hitter To Keep Westport Legion Alive
Westport is making a late push to get into the Legion state tournament.
The Westport Senior American Legion baseball team is making a dramatic late-season run to sneak into the state tournament.
With the season hanging in the balance, David Speer tossed a complete-game three-hitter Thursday, as Westport stayed alive with a 1-0, eight-inning victory over Trumbull in a Zone Four contest at Staples High School.
Speer, who compiled a 21-5 career record at Staples, pitched like the former Wreckers' ace, striking out 10 and walking none.
