Spend the Summer as a Westport Country Playhouse Intern

The Playhouse has been providing internship opportunities through its nationally recognized Joanne Woodward Internship Program since 1946.

Calling emerging arts professionals

The Playhouse has been providing internship opportunities through its nationally recognized Joanne Woodward Internship Program since 1946. This summer, we are pleased to welcome interns back to campus! Internships in stage management, props/scenic painting, wardrobe, marketing, company management, education, and development will run from May 28 – August 21, 2022.

While on campus, interns work directly with senior staff and gain crucial on-the-job experience in a vibrant and innovative professional theater. Weekly intern seminars feature a variety of guest speakers, including Playhouse staff members, visiting designers and artists, commercial producers, and more.

Interns reside in provided housing for the length of their term; each intern will have their own room. The residence is located approximately eight miles from the Playhouse in Fairfield, Connecticut. Transportation to work is the responsibility of the intern but travel stipends may be available.

Apply by March 11 to join our team in this truly innovative time for the theater industry!

See what past interns have said about the program!

“The Woodward internship really allowed me to grow as a theater professional. Everyone at the playhouse was so welcoming, patient, and kind! They were so eager to lend a helping hand or show you how to do something when you needed it and the leadership was strong yet compassionate and understanding. I felt safe enough to grow, to learn, and to challenge myself. I highly recommend this internship to anyone in the theater industry! The Woodward internship really fills in the gaps in professional experience so you feel ready to go out and find work in your field!”

Betzabeth Castro, 2021 Education intern

“My time with the Playhouse helped me to feel more confident in myself as an arts administrator, and I had the opportunity to work with industry professionals who were passionate about helping me learn! I was able to work on relevant projects, and was encouraged to bring my own ideas to the table. I loved my time with WCP!”

Sydney Wyatt, 2020 Marketing intern

“My time as the Education Intern at Westport was hands-down the most enriching and beneficial experience that I’ve had in theater to date. The community of artists at the Playhouse is an incredibly supportive and inspiring group of people, and I had so many opportunities to branch out while working with students from Westport and surrounding communities.”

Gracelyn Shalaski, 2020 Education intern
