Spring Valley HS Students Job Shadow Nyack First Niagara Employees

Students Receive Real-World Advice on Careers in Banking

First Niagara employees at the bank’s Nyack branch recently hosted a day of job shadowing and career training activities for 30 Spring Valley High School juniors and seniors, who are interested in working in the banking or finance industry.

In addition to job shadowing employees, students participated in seminars on budgeting finances, resume building and tips for on-site job interviews. Employees also discussed a variety of potential banking and finance career paths for the students, including commercial and investment banking, mortgage lending and administrative support.

First Niagara Branch Manager Ada Myteberi-Ferreira coordinated the event along with Junior Achievement of Hudson Valley. Junior Achievement is a not-for-profit organization designed to empower young people to have their own economic success by providing students with a curriculum focused on the business world, local job market and financial literacy.

“First Niagara and Junior Achievement have enjoyed a long and gratifying relationship helping young people in the communities we serve. Through our collaboration with JA, students gain valuable, real-world advice and experience that will ultimately help them achieve future career success,” said Myteberi-Ferreira. “We received great feedback from the Spring Valley High students about their job shadowing experiences. We look forward to continuing to work with the school on similar career events.”

First Niagara and Junior Achievement have partnered on a variety of volunteer initiatives, including the annual “JA in a Day” events, in which First Niagara employees teach grade-specific financial literacy lessons at elementary schools in New York, Connecticut and Massachusetts.
