St. Luke's Students Raise $16K for the American Cancer Society
Tenth graders participate in Relay for Life as this year's class service project

St. Luke's tenth graders joined at the Fairfield University Recplex for this year's class service project—the American Cancer Society's Relay for Life. Students set a goal to raise $1,000 and blew it out of the water by raising more than $16,000 to fund cancer research. The St. Luke's team raised the most money of any team in the history of Relay for Life at Fairfield University.

How did they do it? Students met weekly to plan and organize fundraisers and activities that would get the SLS community involved. In alignment with their "neon" theme, students sold t-shirts, glow stick swag bags, and auctioned off rolls of neon duct tape to stick to Dr. John Higgins, 10th Grade Dean and Upper School Science Teacher, to the wall. They also held a Penny War.

On the event day, more than 40 St. Luke's community members walked a collective 950 laps — 95 miles — over six hours in support of cancer research. At least one member of the team had to be walking at all times. Between laps, students participated in fun activities with other groups at the event, including dodgeball, face painting, musical chairs, and cornhole.
