Staples High School Awards 215 Seals Of Biliteracy To Students

WESTPORT, CT — Staples High School is proud to announce that the World Languages Department awarded 215 Seals of Biliteracy to graduating seniors in the Class of 2023. The Seal is an award given upon high school graduation in recognition of proficiency in two or more languages (one of which is English).

"It is a testament to a student’s dedication to building literacy skills and is designed to enhance a student’s future educational and employment credentials," officials said in a statement. "It also provides recognition of the progress made in developing language and communication skills. The Seal affirms the value of diversity and honors the cultures and languages in our community."

The following students have earned the Seal of Biliteracy in: Spanish (126), French (29), Italian (26), Mandarin Chinese (12), German (7), Latin (6), Hindi (2), Czech (1), Haitian Creole (1), Hebrew (1), Japanese (1), Marathi (1), Polish (1), and Thai (1).
