Staples High School, Kings Highway Elementary Win Student Video Awards

WESTPORT, CT — The Educational Access Awareness Awards honor original student video productions that have been broadcast throughout the school year on Altice’s Educational Access Channel 78. The Area 9 Cable Council (A9CC) and Altice sponsor this contest yearly to encourage students to develop video production and storytelling skills by creating access television shows relevant to their school and community. Student videos are recognized in eight separate categories - Adult Assisted (Elementary), Animation/Stop Motion, Experimental, Documentary (High School), General Interest Story, Narrative/Fiction Entries, News Shows, Public Service Announcements, and School News Story.

This year marked the return of the A9CC Access Awards after two years of a pause due to the
pandemic. We have seen the numbers and quality of productions increase as our TV production
school programs became the “eyes and ears” of the schools during the past two years. We had
numerous student videos submitted at the school level and many went on to compete in the contest with projects from across Fairfield County. The competition recognizes student excellence at the Elementary, Middle and High School levels. An "Eddy" (Ed Access Trophy) will be presented to the school for each winning project listed below. A certificate of recognition will also be presented to each student who participated in the creation of First, Second, and Third Place projects.

Additionally, three John M. Repicky Awards will be presented this year. The John M. Repicky Award was established in 2010 to recognize Mr. Repicky for his more than twenty-five years of selfless service to the Area 9 Cable Council's Education and Government Committees. The Repicky Award honors the best overall project in each level (Elementary, Middle, and High School) with a $500 equipment package.
