Staples High School Student Arrested After Social Media Threat: Police

Westport police are investigating, and have increased officers' presence at the school.

WESTPORT, CT — A Staples High School juvenile student has been arrested, after the student is alleged to have made "veiled threatening messages on social media," according to Westport police.

Due to the student's age, no information was disclosed on the teen's identity or charges.

"There was a complaint filed [Monday] evening that a student had posted veiled threatening messages to social media," Westport Police Lt. Eric Woods wrote in an email to Patch. "These posts caused concern and alarm to those who viewed them, and an investigation ensued. The person responsible for the posts was identified as a Juvenile from Westport, and he was charged accordingly."

In addition to the social media case, Westport police are also reportedly investigating "threatening vandalism" that was found written in bathrooms at the school.

The threats written in several bathrooms were not found to be credible, according to News 12 Connecticut.

"The vandalism incident is still an open investigation and not related to the social media incident from yesterday," Woods said. "We have increased Police presence at the schools [Tuesday] to try and alleviate any fears students/staff may have with going to the schools."
